New To Blog

I’ve decided to do something a bit more interesting with this blog than just talking about my life. Time to start a new phase and speak up about my opinions on things, namely computers, books and games. Not quite sure how this will work out but hey others have done it so why the hell shouldn’t I?

So for starters today I shall give my review of the soon to be released Warhammer online. I had not previously expected myself to enjoy playing it as much as I have to date. I’ve been playing on the Ironclaw beta server mostly and currently have a level 12 Witch Elf, a rank 7 Sorceress and a rank 3 Disciple of Khaine. Yes if you see the pattern emerging as well you would be correct, I’m hooked on Dark Elves. Misgivings about the graphics at the beginning of my adventure have proven to be blown away by the play style. I’ve never been a fan of PVP in other games as it has always felt rather pointless to take on other people simply to slaughter their characters. PvP in War consists of real world RvR areas and instanced battles, as you kill more players in RvR you gain experience and renown points as well as occasionally items and money from the corpses of the fallen enemies. This is the most innovative take I’ve ever seen for PvP.

The character classes that I have played so far have interesting mechanics. To those familiar with WoW the Witch Elf is Warhammer’s Rogue class, hard hitting skimpily dressed women are sure to draw a slew of male fans, not to mention fans of big 80’s hair. If you have ever played a melee dps class then this is the one for you.

Sorceress, I was less impressed with this class. While they hit fairly hard the game play without some support can get a bit tough while soloing, this is most likely more due to my lack of familiarity with the class than a flaw in itself. Again skimpy outfits but as a dps class very good, just dont try to take on more than one, you’ll get swamped.

Now on to my new favourite class. Disciple of Khaine, at first I couldn’t make head nor tail of the healing/dps needs. This is not a class for the faint of heart, as you will be in the middle of melee combat while healing your team. There are benefits to this, namely you can heal tank hero mobs of a similiar level down mind you this does require a fair bit of time. The healing mechanic works like this, you have a full soul essence bar in the centre of the UI bar at the bottom of your screen. Each healing spell costs Soul Essence to cast, you do not regenerate Soul Essence like mana in other games, instead you have to use skills/abilities against enemies in order to fill it back up.

On that note I am going to upload this post and come back to edit it later. Next post shall be a book review, but I still have to decide who it is.
